Liz will be starting her fifth season as a coach for the BFSC, this time as head coach! As a skater herself, Liz passed her Intermediate Moves in the Field and Intermediate Freeskate. She grew up skating in Burlington and Lake Placid, and participated in competitions and skating shows throughout the northeast. Liz was also a member of the Vermont Children's Theater on Ice (VCTI) and traveled to Europe twice to perform and compete with that group. Liz began her coaching at Leddy Arena when she was in high school, and continued in college at a rink outside of New York City. She now loves coaching at the BOR as she's also a fifth grade teacher at Barre Town School, and enjoys seeing some of her past, present, and future students on the ice!

I started skating around age 5 after watching my first Barre Figure Skating Club show featuring The Little Mermaid. From age 5, I was hooked. I have competed in and around Vermont and New York. Thanks to my parents, I also had the pleasure of completing workshops with Todd Eldredge, his coach, and Brian Orser. During my years with the Barre Figure Skating Club, I skated in Burlington’s skating show featuring Brian Boitano, Philip Dulebohn, and Tiffany Scott. I took a break from skating after high school, but my love of the ice never stopped! I frequented local rinks just to hear the sound of my blade cutting into the ice. There’s truly no better sound. Currently, I’m a first grade teacher at Sutton Village School (about 1 ½ hours away).

My name is Lizzy Kennedy and I am thrilled to be joining up as one of the coaches for the 2017-2018 skating season and cannot wait to meet you all.  I live in Barre with my boyfriend, work full time at the hospital, and am currently enrolled in classes, but that is just a little snippet of what my life is like off the ice.

Skating has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember.  I began skating when I was 5 or 6 and did not stop until I graduated from high school.  The levels that I passed included: learn to skate, basic skills, free style, and passed USFSA testing through pre-juvenile.  I also participated in many competitions held at Norwich University and SUNY Plattsburgh in NY.  I participated in the end of the year show, fundraising, and even some coaching during my time as a Barre Figure Skating Member.  I helped coach learn to skate, basic skills, and adult learn to skate.  I always felt at home on the ice and always loved it.  I am really looking forward to teaching your children the sport that I have loved since I first put on my skates.
